Ford, General Motors and Ram dominates the segment with a vehicle that offers a level of ridiculous towing and payload capacity and a model loaded with luxury items and primed with the tech-rich machines.

The off-brand, meanwhile, led by the Tundra, which while still accounting for the sale of six digits (112 732 units in 2013, up from 101 621 in 2012), sitting far behind the F-150s and Silverados world. After our first drive revamped 2014 Tundra, we came away thinking this truck is a total underachiever, which aims to soothe Toyota loyalists and did little to win new customers.

But everyone deserves a second chance, and we think one week trip in a different environment can lead to different - opinions - or at least more fully realized. While the Tundra may not be an industry leader, still make it on the shopping list a lot of truck buyers. So, should you consider this off-brand pickup truck? To find out, we borrowed a top-of-the-line Tundra Platinum for a week. Read on to see what we find.

In the cabin, our Platinum-trimmed tester has almost Lexus-like sensibility. The leather on the dashboard, doors and seats uppers that stand out in the luxury truck market oriented more. It looks good and feels good enough to be touched.

We also noted Toyota has opted for softer leather on the dashboard and doors, and something a little more durable in the seat. Painted plastic used on the dash looks good and feels strong, while the soft-touch materials on the dashboard top and door made Tundra Platinum feels more luxurious.

From the driver's seat, visibility is excellent throughout, thanks to the high-riding Tundra nature, extensive greenhouses and quite thin A-pillars. The tilt and telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated gently, a welcome touch when winter keeps the pressure on the southeastern Michigan.

Power thigh support helps make the front leather seats really comfortable as well. If you are long-legged, like us, this is a feature that will prove its worth in the first couple of miles down the road. e'd have no doubt driving long distances in the Tundra.
